Junkers Ju88G-1, Wnr 714759 of the Geschwaderstab of NJG 5. Parked in front of the wrecks of a Siebel Si204D and Messerschmitt Bf109G-10/AS is an interestingly marked Junkers Ju88G-1, Wnr 714759 of the Geschwaderstab of NJG 5. The typical Ju88G colour scheme of overall RLM 76 Light Blue with RLM 75 Grey mottles has been given a none-too artistic overspray of Dark Green (probably Rlm 83), even obscuring the national markings. The code letters are most likely RLM Blue 24. It is unusual to see a Ju88G-1 being used by a command unit at wars end. All other known NJG5 staff aircraft were of the later Jumo 213 powered Ju88G-6 version. Large numbers of Ju88G-1s had been earmarked for use as Mistel lower components by this time, but it is also possible that this aircraft was being used as a hack or trainer when captured.
