The wreck of ER488
Spitfire MkV ER488. Wojtek says "The more I look at the pic, the more I think that this was an RAF, not USAAF Spitfire. After all they all used US stars during African landings, and the Air Britain serial listing book quotes this aeroplane as lost in mid-December 1942. And with the red codes - could it be on loan to FAA?

Extra info from Malcolm McKay and Charles Metz, 'Spitfire, The History,' by Morgan and Shacklady.

ER488: 46MU 21/9/42, 215 MU 15/10 15/10/42. Then transported by the ship SS628 to Algiers. Failed to return from Ops 17/12/43"
