Restored P-51D Mustang of 442 Sqn RCAF

The big hit at the Geneseo air show, "The Greatest Show on Turf," where these photos were taken was the first appearance of Michael Potter's Mustang MkIV in it's new colours. Formerly marked as "Oklahoma Miss" USAAF serial 44-73463. this aircraft is now finished as KH 661 Y2-C of 442 Squadron RCAF.
Mike Potter operates Vintage Wings of Canada out of Gatineau Airport near Ottawa. His collection includes a Spitfire Mk XVI, a Hurrricane Mk IV, a Tiger Moth and a Harvard, none of which were present at Geneseo.
He also has a Beaver, a Waco Taperwing, and a Beech Staggerwing. The Beech 17 was at Geneseo, but didn't fly.

"My understanding is that the markings depicted on the aircraft, which is an extensive rebuilt of the postwar RCAF 9575, are those of Roger "Rocky" Robillard, another wartime 442 Mustang pilot now living in the Ottawa area.
Both wartime photos of Y2-C are therefore probably via Rocky Robillard, who I met some years ago at one of our 442 Sqn. reunions.

The yellow cowling and canopy markings are startling, but no doubt authentic, considering that Michael Potter's people have based it on Rocky Robillard's personal aircraft.

I have done a lot of work with Mike Henniger in Ottawa, and Potter's people, in trying to dig out the full history of RCAF 9575. 30 years ago, it was basically a wingless stripped-out fuselage hulk in Texas, and I have several
photos taken of it at the time when it was being reskinned. "
